Cordy + Ike's

Introduction

With cloth diapers, colorful toys and an array of other goods for babies (and parents!), Cordy & Ike's is one of the cutest corners of the internet.

Monica Weaver founded the Austin-based business in May 2016, after her second child was born, drawing inspiration from her unique passion for the cloth diaper/natural parenting industry.

“I had been wanting to open my own business for a long time, and after each of my children was born... I finally took the plunge with the encouragement of some good friends of mine.”

Getting Inspired

For Weaver, much of her inspiration comes from entrepreneurs just like herself. "A HUGE number of them are moms/dads with young children themselves," she said. "They create and sell the products they want to have available for their own children, which is a big part of why I chose to go into this industry as well."

To Weaver, these fellow parents/entrepreneurs embody a number of her core values.

The Ins and Outs of Entrepreneurship

It's especially important to have that support and inspiration once the business ball gets rolling, as Weaver has learned! “I'm doing IT, marketing, purchasing, order fulfillment, everything. I knew it would be a lot of work, but I was still surprised by the scope of it."

It was this amount of work that inspired the advice Weaver gives to entrepreneurs who are just setting up shop.

“Plan. Plan plan plan...Spreadsheets are your friends.”

Looking Ahead

So what does the future hold for Cordy & Ike's? A lot! "I want to keep growing!" Weaver said. "I've been adding new products pretty steadily and my customer base is growing steadily as well. I'd also love to be able to lease some space somewhere, for warehousing if not an actual retail storefront. My entire inventory is in our guest bedroom right now and I literally can hardly turn around in there!"
